Fruit Gathering
IX
When I lingered among my hoarded
treasure I felt like a worm that feeds
in the dark upon the fruit where it
was born.
I leave this prison of decay.
I care not to haunt the mouldy still-
ness, for I go in search of everlasting
youth; I throw away all that is not
one with my life nor as light as my
laughter.
I run through time and, O my
heart, in your chariot dances the poet
who sings while he wanders.

We cannot save ourselves.
A higher force
Has come to our rescue

Today is the equinox, in the UK, when day and night are of equal length
marking the official end of summer and the commencement of Autumn. The
withdrawal of the life-force of the land has a correspondence with this
beautiful poem written by Rumi.
Our death is our wedding with eternity.
What is the secret? "God is One."
The sunlight splits when entering the windows of the house.
This multiplicity exists in the cluster of grapes;
It is not in the juice made from the grapes.
For he who is living in the Light of God,
The death of the carnal soul is a blessing.
Regarding him, say neither bad nor good,
For he is gone beyond the good and the bad.
Fix your eyes on God and do not talk about what is invisible,
So that he may place another look in your eyes.
It is in the vision of the physical eyes
That no invisible or secret thing exists.
But when the eye is turned toward the Light of God
What thing could remain hidden under such a Light?
Although all lights emanate from the Divine Light
Don't call all these lights "the Light of God";
It is the eternal light which is the Light of God,
The ephemeral light is an attribute of the body and the flesh.
...Oh God who gives the grace of vision!
The bird of vision is flying towards You with the wings of desire.

If I try to say anything about this,
consider that it is everything
speaking simultaneously to
everything.
Just so, how can anything
be said, except
in the saying of it
something new
emerges.
The earth speaks in
new grass, snow,
chrysanthemums.
The mountain speaks in
boulders, trees,
waterfalls.
The sky speaks in
sun, moon,
cloud.
Han Shan

weeps,
laughs.
Ah, what secrets within
your own bright
true mind!

From the I Ching
64 Before Completion
- The Judgment
- The Image
This hexagram indicates a time when the transition from disorder to
order is not yet completed. The change is indeed prepared for, since
all the lines in the upper trigram are in relation to those in the
lower. However, they are not yet in their places. While the preceding
hexagram offers an analogy to autumn, which forms the transition from
summer to winter, this hexagram presents a parallel to spring, which
leads out of winter's stagnation into the fruitful time of summer.
With this hopeful outlook the I Ching comes to its close.
The Judgment
Before Completion. Success.
But if the little fox, after nearly completing the crossing,
Gets his tail in the water,
There is nothing that would further.
The conditions are difficult. The task is great and full of responsibility.
It is nothing less than that of leading the world out of confusion
back to order. But it is a task that promises success, because there
is a goal that can unite the forces now tending in different directions.
At first, however, one must move warily, like an old fox walking
over ice. The caution of a fox walking over ice is proverbial in
China. His ears are constantly alert to the cracking of the ice,
as he carefully and circumspectly searches out the safest spots.
A young fox who as yet has not acquired this caution goes ahead
boldly, and it may happen that he falls in and gets his tail wet
when he is almost across the water. Then of course his effort has
been all in vain. Accordingly, in times "before completion,"
deliberation and caution are the prerequisites of success.
The Image
Fire
Water
Fire over water:
The image of the condition before transition.
Thus the superior man is careful
In the differentiation of things,
So that each finds its place.
When fire, which by nature flames upward, is above, and water,
which flows downward, is below, their effects take opposite directions
and remain unrelated. If we wish to achieve an effect, we must first
investigate the nature of the forces in question and ascertain their
proper place. If we can bring these forces to bear in the right
place, they will have the desired effect and completion will be
achieved. But in order to handle external forces properly, we must
above all arrive at the correct standpoint ourselves, for only from
this vantage can we work correctly.

...In the conscient the ego becomes the superficial point at which
the unity can begin to emerge; but it applies its perception of
unity to the form and surface action and, failing to take account
of all that operates behind, fails also to realise that it is not
only one in itself but one with others.

The fragrance of Heaven
Dwells all the time
In the aspiration-heart
From 77,000 Service-Trees
Sri Chinmoy
I am the Wind
I AM the wind that wavers,
You are the certain land;
I am the shadow that passes
Over the sand.
I am the leaf that quivers,
You, the unshaken tree;
You are the stars that are steadfast,
I am the sea.
You are the light eternal--
Like a torch I shall die.
You are the surge of deep music,
I but a cry!
