Multiday Race Organisers

Sri Chinmoy MarathonTeam The main organiser of multi-day races in the world at the moment is the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team based in New York. April/May sees the 10/6 day race held this year in Flushing Meadow Park, Queens, New York followed in June by the 3,100 mile race which takes place on a ½ mile loop in Queens and in September the Ultra Trio of 700, 1,000 and 1,300 begins. Besides these huge events, the shorter distances are catered for by local branches of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. In North America, Europe and Australasia races from Marathon’s, 50k 100k, 6/12/24/48 are held throughout the year for the long distance specialists to test themselves. For the runners who compete in these events are amateurs who do so for themselves and rarely with support. People take time off from work and away from their families to pit themselves against their limitations and to set new challenges that lie beyond the everyday life. Open to anyone who feels up to the job, many people have testified to the excellence of the SCMT races and to the great atmosphere that their enthusiasm and dedication generates- year after year.

Colac
The Australian 6-day race takes place in the city of Colac, a race that was inspired by the performances of Cliff Young a 62 year old potato farmer who ran to victory in 1983 in the Westfield Sydney to Melbourne race. A race was put on, the Cliff Young Colac 1000 and then in 1984 the Colac Ultra Marathon took place and fourteen entered including Yiannos Kouros and Eleanor Adams. Kouros blitzed the field setting a new world record and Eleanor Adams broke 11 world records winning the hearts of all. http://www.coolrunning.com.au/ultra/colac/2002results.shtml results-2002.
